Liberty Half Eagles
1905 $5 MS67+ NGC. The 1905 half eagle is scarce in Gem condition and rare in MS66. Superb Gems are usually absent from auction listings even if a collector has the means to acquire one. This Plus-graded MS67 is high in the Condition Census. Only one coin is known finer. A loupe fails to reveal a single surface abrasion, and the luster is thickly frosted and original with rich yellow-gold color. A hair-thin strike-through is discernible from the I in LIBERTY to the rim, but is unseen by the naked eye. This coin represents the epitome of what a 20th century gold type collector would be looking for. Census: 6 in 67 (2 in 67+), 1 finer (3/17).
