Indian Eagles
1908-D $10 Motto MS66 PCGS. Despite boasting nearly four-times the mintage (836,500 coins), the 1908-D With Motto Indian eagle is a trifle scarcer in high grade Mint State than its No Motto counterpart. Quite a number of coins are known in MS61 and MS62, but the availability declines in MS63. Choice coins are genuinely rare and anything finer is exceedingly so. This remarkable Premium Gem example is near the Condition Census. The strike is bold, and the surfaces display softly frosted orange-gold luster with rose hues toward the centers. A loupe is required to locate a few microscopic ticks that limit the grade. Thoroughly lustrous and eye-appealing.
We have not offered a Premium Gem example of this issue since 2010, when an NGC coin realized $27,600 in our June Lone Beach Signature sale. The last PCGS coin that we handled was in our January 2009 FUN Signature sale, and it realized $37,375. This piece is worthy of an equally strong bid. Population: 7 in 66 (1 in 66+), 3 finer (3/17).
