Liberty Double Eagles
1850-O $20 AU55 PCGS. CAC. Variety 2. 30th Anniversary Green Label Holder. Although readily available in grades through XF45, this first-year New Orleans twenty becomes progressively scarcer in the various AU tiers and is rare in Mint State. Only seven coins are certified Uncirculated: six at NGC and one at PCGS. The single finest piece resides in an NGC MS62 holder.
This Choice AU example attractively displays crisp obverse motifs and has just a few select areas of weakness on some the reverse high points, most of which are due to light wear, rather than strike. Liberty's cheek is remarkably smooth for the grade. The lime-gold fields are offset by pastel red-peach accents on some of the design's high points. Wispy hairlines are noted in the fields, but there are only a handful of trivial abrasions seen on each side of this pleasing 1850-O. Census: 51 in 55, 24 finer (3/17).
