Liberty Double Eagles
1864-S $20 MS62 NGC. Ex: Granite Lady Hoard. This hoard of Type One double eagles reportedly survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake while stored within the vaults of the San Francisco Mint, known as the Old Granite Lady. A frosty and fully lustrous Mint State Type One double eagle, this 1864-S exhibits dusky high-point toning that imparts excellent eye appeal. The Granite Lady Hoard is one of several recent discoveries that has supplied the numismatic market place with a small number of Mint State 1864-S double eagles. Census: 12 in 62, 5 finer (3/17).
