Liberty Double Eagles
1866-S $20 Motto AU58 PCGS. CAC. The With Motto 1866-S double eagle is more plentiful than its No Motto counterpart in high grade, although the issue is itself a rarity in Mint State. High-end AU coins are scarce in a PCGS holder, and CAC has endorsed only a dozen examples in AU58 with one finer (3/17). This near-Mint CAC coin displays a bold strike and impressively smooth surfaces that show no obvious high-point wear. Minor slide marks on Liberty's cheek prevent a Mint State designation. The fields are lustrous, and the coin is visually superior to most other AU-level 1866-S With Motto twenties. Population: 30 in 58, 22 finer. CAC: 12 in 58, 1 finer (3/17).
