Liberty Double Eagles
1883-CC $20 AU58+ NGC. CAC. Variety 2-A. Two varieties are known, and this example matches Doug Winter's description for Variety 2-A. The other variety shows a combination of different obverse and reverse dies, designated 1-A by Winter, but now called Variety 1-B. It is possible that Winter's 1-A may also exist, but we have not encountered an example. The 1883-CC double eagle is plentiful in circulated grades, but elusive in Mint State grades. This near-Mint example has a trace of high-point wear on its still lustrous orange-gold surfaces. CAC: 34 in 58, 10 finer (3/17).
