Liberty Double Eagles
1892-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 1-A. The 1892-CC is a better date in high grade, seldom offered in any Mint State level. Coins grading finer than MS62 are extremely rare. This is a date that benefited significantly from the return of hoarded double eagles in European banks. It is far more collectible now than it has been in the past, although the small population of Uncirculated coins on the market only presses collectors to be more picky about quality within the grade.
This MS60 example is far more appealing than most other coins in the same grade, showing scattered abrasions that are remarkably light and unobtrusive. The strike is sharp, and the vibrantly lustrous fields produce strong eye appeal. It would be difficult to surpass this coin in terms of eye appeal without acquiring an MS63 example, which is extremely rare.
