Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 MS60 NGC. Variety 1-A. Struck from an early state of the dies, with no die cracks visible and substantial prooflike reflectivity in the fields. A hint of cameo contrast appears at certain angles. The strike is bold on the central devices but weak on the left-hand obverse stars. Scattered light marks limit the grade, although the eye appeal is comparable to that of many MS61 and MS62 pieces.
The 1893-CC is a challenging acquisition in Mint State, and coins grading finer than MS62 are rare. Only one piece is reported above MS63. This issue's low mintage of 18,402 coins was partially dispersed to overseas banks via the foreign trade, and the return of such coins in recent decades is all that makes the 1893-CC collectible in Mint State. The present coin is highly appealing for the grade and worthy of a strong bid. Housed in a prior generation holder.
