Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 MS61 PCGS. Variety 2-A. Coinage operations were never resumed at the Carson City Mint after 1893. The final mintage of double eagles at the famous Western facility numbered only 18,402 pieces, but the issue is not as difficult to locate as that low production total would suggest. This impressive MS61 specimen exhibits sharply detailed design elements throughout. This coin shows a spike into the field on Liberty's neck and a die crack through TAT of STATES, with the B of JBL above the right side of the 8 in the date. The vivid orange-gold surfaces retain much of their original mint luster and display the expected number of minor contact marks for the grade.
