Modern Bullion Coins
2009 $20 Ultra High Relief, First Strike MS70 Prooflike PCGS. Few collectors can own one of the extremely rare MCMVII Ultra High Relief double eagles, and no collectors can own either of the two small diameter, double thickness pieces that are held in the confines of the Smithsonian Institution. Those pieces, struck in .900 fine gold, contained just under one ounce of the precious metal. See "Legendary Coins & Currency" at amhistory.si.edu for images of those experimental pieces.
Fortunately, the U.S. Mint issued these nearly identical small diameter pieces that bear the MMIX date, in the style of the originals. This perfect example has deeply prooflike yellow-gold surfaces and a full strike that shows every bit of detail as Augustus Saint-Gaudens intended. The only other departure from the pieces struck 110 years ago is the weight and fineness, now one full troy ounce of pure (.999 fine) gold. Population: 95 in 70 Prooflike, (3/17).
