Territorial Gold
1861 $10 Clark, Gruber & Co. Ten Dollar AU58 PCGS. K-7, R.4. According to a brief notice in the July 19, 1861 issue of the Denver Rocky Mountain News, Mint Director James Ross Snowden was complimentary of the Clark, Gruber & Co. gold coins:

The ten dollar pieces vary from 273 to 283 1/2 grains. On the average, and adding the value of the silver alloy, and deducting the mint charges, the pieces are found to be of professed value, or slightly over.

One of those full value ten dollar pieces is offered here. Subtle green overtones appear on the light yellow-gold surfaces of this lustrous near-Mint example. The strike is a trifle weak, and high-point rub is evident on both sides. This is an exceptional example with excellent eye appeal.
