1863 $1 Dollar, Judd-347, Pollock-419, High R.7, PR66 Cameo NGC. Ex: Share. A so-called transitional issue that uses the dies of the regular Seated Liberty dollar of the year, but it bears the addition of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the reverse scroll, of the type introduced on regular-issue coinage in 1866. Struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. According to USPatterns.com: "These and the other "with motto" patterns of this date and also 1864 and possibly 1865 are actually restrikes made circa 1869 and into the early 1870s and were offered with restrikes of the other denominations in complete sets." Pieces were struck in silver, copper and aluminum, with aluminum the rarest composition with only five pieces traced. This dollar is unoxidized but shows light haziness over each side. As usually seen on aluminum patterns, there is strong contrast between the fields and devices.
