1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1298, Pollock-1440, R.8, PR63 PCGS. A Trade dollar design that depicts Liberty seated with her left hand resting on a globe and bales of cotton and a sheaf of wheat nearby. The reverse has an eagle with spread wings. Struck in white metal with a plain edge. An obvious rarity, our Auction Archives only show one other appearance since 1993, and that is this coin. Each side shows a couple of "bubbles" of metal that were obviously in the planchet at the time of striking, perhaps brought to the surface by annealing. There are also numerous streaks of impurity on each side from the planchet and a large area of granularity in the left obverse field. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices nicely frosted.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2002), lot 7471, where it brought $9,487.50.
