Patterns
1878 $1 Goloid Dollar, Judd-1562, Pollock-1753, R.6-7, PR66 Red NGC. CAC. Goloid dollar design with a large head of Liberty on the obverse facing left, a wide band holds the hair together and is inscribed LIBERTY. The reverse has the statutory requirements mostly in the center with GOLOID. /1--G./24--S./.9 FINE. 258 GRS. is below. A circle of stars provides an inner border, outside of which is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. More than a dozen pieces are known of this design that were struck in copper. Saul Teichman calls it, " ... the most polished design of the 3 goloid dollar patterns of this year." This is a no-questions full red example that displays bright fields and moderately frosted devices. A few flecks of carbon are small and inconspicuous on both sides.
