1878-S $1 MS65 Deep Mirror Prooflike PCGS. CAC. The debut Morgan dollar from the San Francisco Mint is scarce in Gem Deep Mirror Prooflike condition, and finer DMPL coins are extremely rare. Bowers writes in A Guide Book of Morgan Silver Dollars, fifth edition: "Some are struck from highly prooflike dies ... although these are but a tiny fraction of the existing population." This Gem displays dramatic cameo contrast. Brilliant interiors cede to sun-gold border toning, while the frosty central devices are sharply rendered.
