Morgan Dollars
1879-CC $1 MS62 NGC. Normal Mintmark. In terms of high-grade rarity with the Carson City short set of Morgan dollars, the 1879-CC is a distant second to the 1889-CC, although it is far scarcer in Mint State than most other CC-mint issues, which were heavily represented in the GSA sales of the early 1970s. This is a lower-end Mint State example in terms of numeric grade, although none would deny that it stands out from its peers -- the fields are very nearly prooflike, and the frosty, sharp design elements boast their original silvery luster. Rose-gold border toning is from an old album or bank roll. The only negative of this coin is the abrasions on Liberty's cheek that define the MS62 grade.
