1885 $1 MS67 PCGS. CAC. VAM-3. This Philadelphia issue boasts a mintage of more than 17 million coins. However, Superb Gem survivors are elusive, and coins grading finer than MS67 are extremely rare. This piece is brilliant and frosty with no mentionable abrasions. VAM-3 is distinctive for the recut 5 in the date, visible on the upper edge of the flag. CAC-approved in a green label holder. PCGS lists three finer coins (3/17).
