Morgan Dollars
1885-CC $1 MS67 PCGS. CAC. Rare in circulated grades, common in Mint State through MS66, and rare again in MS67 or finer, most of the rules go out the window when evaluating the 1885-CC. An argument could be made that the issue is worth more in VF20 than in MS65. This example, however, is above all that. Few Carson City dollars of any date have the pristine, aesthetic appeal of this Superb Gem. A full strike defines the frosted devices. The fields and devices show only a tiny number insignificant marks, with Liberty's cheek clear and fully rounded.
The toning makes this coin extra-special with silver-blue undertones yielding to vibrant orange shades and with red and lilac accents on the obverse. The reverse is mostly brilliant-white with vignette of green, red, orange, and smoky purple. PCGS and NGC combined have certified just six examples numerically finer. Population: 91 in 67 (4 in 67+), 1 finer. CAC: 24 in 67, 2 finer (3/17).
