Morgan Dollars
1894 $1 MS61 PCGS. At both the beginning (1878) and the end (1921) of the Morgan dollar series, the Philadelphia Mint typically produced millions of the silver dollars per year. In between, mintage numbers fluctuated widely when political factions finally stood up to the silver lobby to prevent fiscal disaster. In 1893 and again in 1894 mintages were particularly low. The 1894 Philadelphia issue saw only 110,000 silver dollars emerge from the coining presses, a tiny number in the context of the Morgan series. While not rare except in the highest Mint State grades, Uncirculated examples of the 1894 are scarce with good eye appeal and always in strong demand because of the low mintage. This vibrant and brilliant example is sharp and seemingly close to an even finer grade, with few abrasions and exemplary silver luster. Housed in an old green label holder.
