1896-S $1 MS62 NGC. Long known as a challenging issue in Mint State, this better-date San Francisco silver dollar displays brilliant luster that flows unrestrained by a few hints of light-chestnut toning. The centers lack an absolute impression, but the strike is otherwise crisp, and marks are surprisingly few and minor for the MS62 level. Remarkably few attractive Uncirculated examples remain from the seemingly sufficient 5 million-piece mintage.
