Coins of Hawaii
(1860) TOKEN Waterhouse Token XF45 PCGS. Medcalf 2TE-1. The tokens of John T. Waterhouse, a prominent Honolulu merchant, were the first issued in the Hawaiian Islands. Struck in soft white metal alloy, Medcalf says they are extremely difficult to locate in grades above XF45. This Choice XF example is well-detailed, aside from the blunt nose invariably seen on this issue. The lavender-gray surfaces are lightly abraded and retain a few traces of original mint luster. Listed on page 421 of the 2017 Guide Book. Population: 5 in 45, 15 finer (3/17).
Ex: Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 6/2015), lot 4443.
