1879 12.5C T. Hobron, Kahului-Wailuku 12 1/2 Cent Railroad Token, 6/2 Stars, Thick Planchet, XF40 PCGS. Medcalf 2TE-8a. The rare double-thick planchet variant of Medcalf 2TE-8. The variety with six stars on the dated side. Two die pairs are known. The present piece shows a large star at 3 o'clock on the dated side, while the other die marriage has a spindly star at that location. An evenly struck example with mahogany high points and steel-gray fields. Contact is confined to the upright of the second R. In 1879, Thomas H. Hobron built a railroad line between Kahului and the Maui sugar cane plantations. Listed on page 421 of the 2017 Guide Book.
