1882 TOKEN Haiku Plantation One Rial Token AU55 PCGS. Medcalf TE-15. While most of the Hawaiian sugar plantation tokens were more utilitarian than artistic, the Haiku rial was an exception. It appears to have been designed and struck by professionals, instead of blacksmiths. One rial is a phonetic variant of one real, or 12 1/2 cents. This is a lightly circulated worker's chit with minimally marked golden-brown surfaces. Protected areas display deeper shades, an indication of originality. Listed on page 421 of the 2017 Guide Book.
