So-Called Dollars
1927 New Monte Cristo Mine, C.C. Julian, XF40 PCGS. Silver, 41mm, octagonal. Notorious swindler C.C. Julian escaped the failure of the Julian Petroleum Company with only a fine, then moved on to a stock promotion for Leadfield mines in Death Valley. When that failed, his next venture was the New Monte Cristo Mine in Arizona. The present silver so-called dollar variety was part of his marketing for that mine, which also soon failed. This is a lightly circulated silver-gray example with scattered moderate field marks.
