1865 25C Quarter Dollar, Judd-425, Pollock-497, High R.6, PR65 NGC. Both sides are the regular With Motto designs, with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above the eagle, as adopted in 1866. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. This is one of the various "pattern" issues of this design that includes quarter dollars, half dollars, and dollars, and are actually restrikes intended for collectors and coined in the late 1860s or early 1870s. Just over a dozen examples of this variety are known. This is a bright, reflective example that has a light layer of golden toning over each side and a curious, straight, vertical stripe of blue on the reverse. A distinctive pattern.
