1868 10C Ten Cents, Judd-648, Pollock-721, High R.6, PR66+ Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. The obverse uses the head of Liberty as seen on Braided Hair large cents, last produced in 1857, and is mated with a reverse that reads TEN CENTS in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath. Struck in copper with a plain edge. About two dozen examples are known. This is an earlier striking that lacks the reverse die crack associated with later strikes. The obverse is almost full red, with just the slightest muting in the fields. The reverse shows rich blue-brown patina. Both sides glow brightly from die polishing. Among the finest graded of this popular, enigmatic pattern.
