1873 T$1 Trade Dollar, Judd-1276, Pollock-1418, R.5, PR63 PCGS. This William Barber design shows a distinctive small head of Liberty facing left surrounded by a large, open field with 13 peripheral stars. On the reverse, an olive wreath surrounds the denomination, weight, and fineness inscriptions, while UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the upper periphery. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. There is a significant difference in rarity and value between the silver pieces struck with a reeded edge and those that have a plain edge (R.5 vs. Low R.7), making this an excellent entry level example of this unusual design. Light hairlines explain the grade; otherwise, the surfaces show deep mirroring in the fields and a light accent of reddish color.
