Patterns
1878 $1 Morgan Dollar, Judd-1550a, Pollock-1723, 1725, Low R.6, PR64 NGC. The obverse is similar to the adopted design, with only minor differences. The eagle on the reverse is noticeably different with respect to the neck and wings, in particular, and the olive branch in the talons has only three leaves. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. Copper examples are also known. Two variants are known of the Judd-1550a. This variety is most readily identified by the raised M on Liberty's neck instead of incuse. Other minor design positioning differences are also seen on the obverse. This is slightly more available than the other 1550a variant with just over a half dozen pieces confirmed. The fields are remarkably deep in their mirrored reflectivity and the centers are only slightly toned while the margins show rose and deep blue rings of color.
From The Siegel Collection.
