Gold Dollars
1855-C G$1 AU53 NGC. Variety 2. The second 5 in the date is to the right below the A. This variant comes better struck than Variety 1, with DOLLAR and the date boldly impressed. The wreath elements and portrait, though, are incomplete. Light straw-gold surfaces exhibit thin, wispy abrasions. The 1855-C is always in high demand as the sole Charlotte Type Two gold dollar. Only 9,803 coins were struck.
