Classic Quarter Eagles
1839-O $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS. Breen-6153, Variety 28, R.4. Low Date, Close Fraction. The 1839-O is the first quarter eagle from the New Orleans Mint, and it is a one-year Classic Head type with that mintmark. Mint State examples are rare, although this near-Mint coin is accessible for more budget-conscious collectors. The strike is bold, and only slight high-point friction is seen. The fields display luminous orange-gold luster and original coloration. No major abrasions distract from the eye appeal. The reverse features a 180-degree rotation relative to the obverse, as is often the case with this die pairing. Population: 32 in 58, 25 finer (3/17).
