Liberty Quarter Eagles
1865-S $2 1/2 MS62 PCGS. During the mid-1860s, the San Francisco issues in the quarter eagle series were produced in greater quantities than their Philadelphia counterparts, and today they are the more plentiful type-coin prospect. However, availability is relative; the 1865-S quarter eagle is scarce in all grades and genuinely rare in Mint State. This MS62 coin has frosty luster and pleasantly minimal abrasions for the grade. Significant strike weakness on the central devices no doubt contributed to the numeric classification. Population: 4 in 62, 2 finer (3/17).
