Indian Quarter Eagles
1911-D $2 1/2 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. Strong D. The 1911-D has less than one-fourth the mintage of the 1914, which has the second-smallest production of the type. Since the Indian quarter eagle series can be completed by date and mintmark without major stoppers, the 1911-D emerges as an important key date. The present lot appears to the unaided eye as a nice Mint State example, since it is well struck and coruscating with smooth apricot-gold surfaces. Close inspection reveals vertical hairlines on the reverse field.
