Three Dollar Gold Pieces
1874 $3 MS65 PCGS. The 1874 is the most conditionally challenging of the three biggest type-coin issues in the three dollar gold series. Gems are rare, and finer pieces are far out of reach for most collectors. This example displays a bold strike and satiny orange-gold mint luster. Other than a few stray lines in the fields, there are no mentionable grade indicators. Unlike the 1878, the 1874 three dollar gold issue is not so easily found in high grade with excellent eye appeal. Population: 16 in 65, 6 finer (3/17).
