Classic Half Eagles
1834 $5 Plain 4 MS62 NGC. CAC. McCloskey 3-B, R.2. A plain 4, with the 34 in the date comparatively distant, identifies the obverse. On the reverse, the eagle has no tongue, and there is no motto above its head. Perhaps the strongest quality of the present piece is its flashy, semiprooflike luster, which gives it tremendous eye appeal. Enticing yellow-gold patina overlies the surfaces and is complemented by powerfully struck details. This exquisitely preserved and attractive piece would make a wonderful representative for a type collection.
