1873-S $5 AU50 NGC. Despite a mintage of 31,000 coins, the 1873-S half eagle is highly elusive in any condition, and just one example is currently known in Mint State. This Almost Uncirculated representative displays strong detail with only slight wear over the high points. Small remnants of mint luster remain beneath deep orange-gold patina. Census: 12 in 50, 35 finer (3/17).
