Liberty Half Eagles
1883-CC $5 XF45 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Survivors of the small 12,958-piece mintage are normally in the VF to XF range, putting this Choice XF at a level that is ideal for most collectors. Mint luster remains around the stars and legends, while the fields display smooth, caramel-gold surfaces. As with most Carson City half eagles from the 1880s, the strike is weak on the eagle's neck and head, although the leg and horizontal shield lines are above-average on this example. The coin is amazingly free of marks for the assigned grade. Population: 25 in 45, 65 finer (3/17).
