Liberty Eagles
1873-S $10 VF35 NGC. Mintages of small gold coins was minimal in the 1860s and 1870s as double eagle production took up most of the time and raw material for coinage. Only 12,000 eagles were coined in San Francisco in 1873, a year before the new mint building was ready for occupancy. None of the myriad marks on this piece are consequential, and both sides exhibit pleasing light yellow surfaces. Census: 3 in 35, 61 finer (3/17).
