Liberty Double Eagles
1856 $20 AU53 PCGS. Per gold specialist Doug Winter, the 1856 "has a lower survival rate than other comparable double eagles struck during this era and it is a very rare (and still under-recognized) issue in high grades." Light rub is apparent over the sharply struck relief elements. Each side exhibits bright yellow-gold color and peppered abrasions. PCGS reports 75 submissions (3/17).
