Liberty Double Eagles
1870-S $20 MS61 NGC. CAC. A pair of MS62 coins are reported from the Saddle Ridge Hoard, although the number of 1870-S double eagles known finer than the present coin is still scant. CAC-approved pieces in this condition are rare. The strike gives no reason for complaint, and the frosty yellow-gold surfaces are original. Heavy abrasions determine the grade. Census: 37 in 61 (1 in 61+), 13 finer. CAC: 6 in 61, 4 finer (3/17).
