1873 $20 Open 3, Doubled Die Obverse, FS-101, MS63 NGC. CAC. LIBERTY is boldly die doubled on this Cherrypickers' variety. FS-101 makes up a minority of the Mint State Open 3 coins on the market, and it is rare above MS62. The finest pieces attributed by either NGC and PCGS grade MS63, and there are only 20 coins that fine between the two services (12 at NGC and eight at PCGS) (3/17). This example is sharp and frosty with original rose-gold luster. A thin mark near star 12 and some light grazes on Liberty's cheek are all that limit the grade.
