Liberty Double Eagles
1904 $20 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The Gem grade is the final level of ready availability for the 1904 double eagles. Finer examples are not impossible but they are elusive and expensive. Nor are they much of an improvement over the present coin, which displays sumptuous orange-gold color and satin-smooth surfaces. A few inconspicuous marks and need a glass to locate, and three or four deep-blue toning spots on the reverse cannot diminish the radiant eye appeal. Razor-sharp definition covers the motifs. PCGS reports just 208 numerically finer examples (3/17).
