Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1913-S $20 MS63 PCGS. Only the 1908-S Saint-Gaudens double eagles have a lower mintage than the 1913-S (excluding the High Reliefs and Ultra High Reliefs, which are not considered regular issues for circulation). Just 34,000 pieces were struck, yet Roger Burdette estimates a survival rate approaching 10% of those coins -- an extremely high rate in the Saint-Gaudens series. This sun-gold Select Uncirculated example displays glimpses of orange amid radiant cartwheel luster. A sharp strike adds to the appeal, although we note some oft-seen weakness at the Capitol dome and the torch hand.
