Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1916-S $20 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The economic effects of World War I included restrictions on international trade and gold shipments overseas. As a result, while 796,500 double eagles were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1916, none were produced at the other U.S. mints, and no more double eagles were struck until 1920. This attractive Gem is sharply detailed throughout, and the well-preserved orange-gold surfaces display radiant mint luster.
