Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1924-D $20 MS64 PCGS. It is no longer considered the great rarity it was a few decades ago, but the 1924-D is still scarce in the higher Mint State grades. Increased supply is the result of overseas repatriations, in large part. Bowers noted that despite the issue's scarcity, it is offered with some regularity, and wrote an especially bon mot in his series Guide Book: "Sometimes a rare double eagle will do quite a bit of flitting around before it finds a lasting perch." This lustrous near-Gem should soon find a lasting home. Rich luster and warm, orange-gold color deliver excellent eye appeal. PCGS has seen only 11 submissions in finer grade levels, likely including some duplications (3/17).
