Territorial Gold
1853 $20 Assay Office Twenty Dollar, 900 Thous. AU58 PCGS. K-18, R.2. The 1853 900 Thous. Assay Office twenty dollar gold pieces were struck by the United States Assay Office under the authority of principals Curtis, Perry, and Ward. These were the final twenty dollar gold coins struck by that office before the opening of San Francisco Mint in April 1854 and hold significant historical interest. This beautiful orange-gold twenty has razor-sharp detail and partial glowing luster with lavender accents. The engine turning on the reverse is especially bold. Listed on page 395 of the 2017 Guide Book.
