KINGS of MACEDON, Antigonos III Doson, 229-221 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29mm, 17.14 g 11), Amphipolis, c. 227-225. Head of Poseidon to right, wearing wreath of seaweed. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΓΟΝΟΥ Apollo seated to left on prow, holding bow in his right hand; below, oblong monogram and monogram of ΑΡ. Cf. Merker p. 49 (but this specific monogram combination not mentioned. NAC 29, 2005, 161 (same dies). SNG Berry 361 ff. var. A very rare variant, with the added monogram on the reverse, which is missing from almost all published collections. Lightly toned and well-struck. About extremely fine.
