CUBA: AR 2 reales (4.98g), ND [1841], KM-1, lattice countermark with star at center on 1774 Spanish 2 reales, VF on Good host. In 1841, the Spanish authorities in Cuba ordered all circulating silver to be devalued and countermarked with a lattice punch. The countermarked silver was then permitted to circulate in Trinidad, Santiago, and Puerto Principle (then the capital of Haiti). Curious rendition of this countermark in that only the central star in deeply incuse box is visible.
