SIKH EMPIRE: AR gobindshahi rupee (10.55g), Amritsar, VS1865, KM-A20.2, Herrli-01.20.04, bold strike, last date of the first gobindshahi series, EF, S, ex Ajit Singh Collection. No analyses of the gobindshahi rupee weight standard has been published, and it is not indicated by either Herrli or Gurprit. From our own examination, it appears that the gobindshahi rupee followed a standard of about 10.95-11.00g from VS1841-1852, then about 10.75g VS1854-1860, finally about 10.65g VS1862-1865. All of these weights are about 3% to 4% lighter than contemporary nanakshahi rupees. Gobindshahi rupees were then halted for 30 years, and resumed VS1895-1905, at the same weight standard as the nanakshahi rupees also struck at Amritsar.
Estimate: 140-170 USD
