BENGAL PRESIDENCY: AR 1/8 rupee (1.45g), Murshidabad, year 8, KM-81.1, Cr-151, East India Company issue, in the name of Shah Alam II, VF to EF, S, ex Shri S.M. Shukla. S.M. Shukla was instrumental in inspiring generations of collectors and scholars by spreading awareness of the rich monetary history and heritage of India. The first 'Shri S. M. Shukla Memorial Coin Day' aka 'Shukla Day', was held in April of 1991, to commemorate the memory of the legendary numismatist's life and his contribution to the world of Indian numismatics. Held each year in April, it is now regarded as the country's largest numismatic fair in India.
