GREAT MONGOLS: Anonymous, ca. 1220s-1230s, AV dinar (3.92g), DM/ND, A-A1967, contemporary issue, probably during or shortly after the reign of Chingiz Khan, pierced & plugged, VF, RRR. Struck from dies represently late Ghorid prototypes, one citing the caliph al-Mustadi (without mint name), the other citing the caliph al-Nasir, with the mint name Marw. Remarkably issue, apparently unpublished, and yet another example of the local issues supplying gold coinage for the newly arrived Mongol invaders.
